Hip hop re-imagine: a note by the alias Ucok Morgue Vanguard (Murder / trigger mortis)

One day three years ago a friend asked me to write about local HipHop for a magazine where she works. But with great regret I can not write it. I think he asked me at the wrong time (when it might be called the top of my boredom with the hip-hop, especially the local hiphop). Finally I can do is write this instead. Two days yesterday a friend of the others come to chat about stagnation, and the progression of things no other significant about the local scene. I am reminded again of this paper. Finally I decided to be shared over here even though some points are still relevant and some are not.?

Re-Imagining Hiphop
“We went from nutting to something, being real and not front in
Growing up and we coming, up the ladder not bumming
Hip-Hop in the media, y’all know it’s whack
But just like them dope fiends who keep coming back”
KRS-One – “Hiphop

With a heavy heart I can not write anything about hiphop in the ground water that would be too far-fetched when forced. Not because they do not appreciate what has been done by the practitioners of this culture in the homeland, but because of how not nothing next two decades more development (artistic or otherwise) hiphop in the ground water than other parts of the populated land in other parts of the world. Beyond the issue of quantity hiphop albums per year in Indonesia are likely to increase, hiphop Indonesia almost be said to be everywhere. Aesthetic and cultural awareness-economy that is far from realized, also about cultural rituals, which should free-never out of the discourse of the market and the market (which is not illicit goods, but annoying if used as the main parameter was an invalid culture).

Either where lies the problem, but if allowed I assume, maybe this is all rooted in the business meaning of a word that led to the limitations of imagination that will be very fatal when associated with something imaginative, rich in imagination as hip-hop. Maybe this will sound like bragging to boast but I invited a friend to imagine just a little.

Born in NY in the late 70s, hiphop of course not 'Hiphop' when Kool Herc bought two LPs are identical to and then he play at parties and entertainment community who are hungry but never had enough money to rent a club. Can you imagine anyway, hiphop is not the 'Hiphop' that you know (whatever that is) today, when some street party emcee MC rituals begin with the greeting crowd and take advantage of the mic to rah-rah for musical instruments difficult to access, or perhaps also when the set of jerk dancing young people against the current convulsions disco dancing is boring. Similarly, when a bomber named SuperKool replacing standard caps in spraycan with a fatcap to be able to make graffiti blockbuster which later adorned NY trains in later years. As well as Grand Wizard Theodore invented the scratch, flipping through LPs. At that hiphop is not the 'Hiphop', hip-hop is still a wild imagination that comes from unbridled desires and needs which frees in the midst of all the limitations.

Like other cultural projects that have never actually finished, and it may never have thought of starting-Hiphop, then of course do not have the stigma-stigma, images, gimmick, or whatever bullshit attached to the 'Hiphop' today. Perhaps therefore it is, hiphop in the early 80s to early 90s are so imaginative, expressive, refreshing, wild, rebellious with intense and of course entertain and inspire. At that time, the industry is still far from interested in the culture today can generate billions of dollars per year. Maybe it's also the reason why the wide variety of sounds from this culture at its birth 10 years earlier. Because the starting point of an adventure, hiphop never had a blueprint, something that contradicts these days when the 'trend' is a parameter, and the 'market' is the commander.

When Afrika Bambaataa started organizing a community of DJs, MCs, breakers and Bombers to do something in their ghettos, hiphop still do not have a 'title'. Maybe that's why they made a song titled "Renegades of Funk '. As one of the pioneers of hip-hop, Bambaataa could have given the title of the song 'Pioneers of Hiphop', but I believe the Bambaataa was did not see it that way, at least, not then. Bambaataa did not realize that what they are doing is the beginning of something new but rather is an effort of defiance against their predecessors music, Funk, who at the time it reaches the saturation point. Renegades of Funk, the dissidents 'funk'.

The words are sometimes liberating but also jailed when he has reached the status of the totem. On the day Bambaataa to Kraftwerk sample of the media never even say that Bambaataa doing the 'experimental', on the day of DST DJ collaborated with the Last Poets no one called it 'eccentric'. When NWA exploded, the media was the most violent phenomena named them as a gangster-rap, as well as thrilling the world with Public Enemy "It Takes A Nation ..." it, there was never such thing as political hip-hop, only hip-hop, and thats the way it was. Hiphop is always meant adventure, wandering 'dangerous' in any medium young people enjoy doing in NY at that time. Somehow that terminology today is considered 'experimental', off the rails', 'unusual', as if indeed there is something that is' supposed 'to the meanings of hip-hop, especially life and alienation are trying to represent.

Hiphop, perhaps, like other cultural products, are appropriately left to become an open ideas and imagination. He must remain wild and open to any possibility. With such conditions, we will have the opportunity to meet a variety of his form in the worst shape as well as the most beautiful. We've seen tangible hiphop music generic battered unforgiving like 2 Live Crew or MC Hammer, but it also conditions that gave birth to hip-hop masterpiece from Public Enemy to Nas. As with plain walls without authority, have the opportunity to give birth graffiti tagging motorcycle gang names will never be a good sort, but also will give birth to the rainbow-colored graffiti piece that will make you stop your vehicle and stand in front of her stunned for a few minutes, or maybe hours. It will be very different when you see a similar piece at an event 'street art' bersponsorkan cigarette giant corporations that impose your definition of 'street art' was to an area of narrow meaning. Similarly, the adrenaline is gone when you see interesting though breakdance no longer displayed in the treat 'battle' in a television event that is always so-so only.

As with other extraordinary phenomena in this world, hiphop is a portrait of a business out of alienation and boredom. But the same fate with Rock N Roll and Punk are reduced to mere 'Rock N Roll' and 'Punk', hip-hop today is nothing more than just 'Hiphop'. No more refreshing, sometimes amusing, often knock on wood boring. Hiphop has always been considered something 'given' alias 'is by nature'. Exactly the arguments of conservatives who think that all things in the world is already so it is, without irrefutable never crossed my mind how a process is born.

Hiphop-or-nothing in life should be freed, of alienation and boredom, also gives a certain passion in those who desire to live more than just alive. Hiphop used to move me. But It does not move me anymore, i do not even know whether I'm for it or against it.

Fortunately, hiphop is always personal. No need to be defended-defended absurd as nationalism, not necessarily similar dimanifestokan outdated ideology and not have to cherish carried aloft the banner of such parties in the campaign season. Quite similar to hiphop clothing or toilet tissue may be similar, sound similar to the hook of a second bit of pile of LPs faded that you sample, that whenever you can wear it or leave it. Can mix it with other or throw it away altogether. There was never a problem.
