Muse was first in the form in 1994. Members of Muse played during their stay at Teignmouth Community College in the early 1990s, but the formation of Muse began when Bellamy successfully auditioned for a guitarist in Dominic Howard's band. They asked Chris Wolstenholme - who played drums at the time - to learn to play bass for the band, Wolstenholme agreed and took the lesson that, while Bellamy should be a singer and songwriter for the band. The first band name Bellamy and Howard are the Gothic Plague, Fixed Penalty and Rocket Baby Dolls thereafter.
With the gothic image to compete in petarungan between bands. And shortly after that, they changed their name to Muse, migrate from Teignmouth name "Muse" was inspired by the art teacher Matthew Bellamy, who mentions the word "Muses". Bellamy then look in the dictionary and decided to shorten it to "Muse". It is also used because they are short and look good on posters. Members of the band consists of three persons, namely Matthew Bellamy (vocals, guitar, piano, keytar), Chris Wolstenholme (bass, backing vocals, keyboards, guitar) and Dominic Howard (drums, percussion). Muse has a genre of music that blends rock, progressive rock, classical music, and electronics.
After several years building a fan base, Muse played their first concerts in London and Manchester. The band had a meeting with Dennis Smith, owner of Sawmills recording company, based in Cornwall, England. This meeting led to the first official recording of Muse, the EP Muse use a label Sawmills, Dangerous. Then E.P. to-2 they, Muscle Museum, reached the rank-3 on indie charts and received the attention of influential British music journalist Steve Lamacq and the weekly British music magazine NME. Dennis Mills and then helped build a music company Taste Media, which is made especially for Muse (Muse uses this label for their first 3 albums). This is very advantageous to Muse because they can maintain the uniqueness of their music at the beginning of their careers.

Muse are more reliant on high sound Bellamy, with the sound of guitar and piano arpeggio that sounds obvious, which is inspired by the movement of romanticism in particular the Russian musician Sergei Rachmaninoff and Tchaikovsky.
Some songs like "Space Dementia" has elements of classical music that is more viscous by Rachmaninoff. Bellamy also said the influence of renowned guitarist Jimi Hendrix and Tom Morello (guitarist of Rage Against The Machine and Audioslave) in the melody of the guitar in the last few songs in this album.
